Unfortunately, we will not be running the Shutterbee program again this year. However, our website still provides numerous resources that may assist in you in (1) identifying the bees in the bees in your neighborhood, (2) teaching middle school learners about pollinators, (3) learning how to support bees and other pollinators.

We are in Portland for the Ecological Society of America meeting, so of course we had to take pictures of bees! #ESA2023 Lab BBQ was a great success! Alumni, friends of the lab, and current students celebrated all things bees, including this delicious cake by Kerri! Cheers to another amazing summer, y’all. Happy Monday! We saw a hercules beetles, successful captive breeding programs, lots of cool (some highly venomous) tarantulas, the rare California cuckoo bee, my first two spotted long horned of the season, and of course, some awesome butterflies! Jeremy Howard, a biology phD student at UMSL, is conducting a bumblebee genetic mark-recapture study across various landscapes in the area, and he is looking for survey locations!
